Looking for a Personal Life Coach?
If you're looking for a life coach, or a spiritual life coach like myself, you’ll want to find the right one.
By the “right one” I mean someone who understands what you’re going through, someone who knows how to guide you through and past your troubles, someone who can help you find your lost focus, your lost motivation, your lost drive, or someone who understands the deeper more spiritual aspects of life.
The right life coach is someone who will work with you to transform your life. Someone who will teach you how to restore your life’s natural balance, so it’s satisfying and harmonious. Someone who can help you create your own exciting personal vision for your life. Essentially someone who will help you start looking forward to life again!
If that sounds like a tall order, well frankly it is and fortunately, there are a few really excellent personal and spiritual life coaches out there. Being as humble as I possibly can; I like to think of myself as being one of them.
Don’t take my word for it though. Instead, do a little investigating. Finding the right personal coach involves finding certain things in the people you’re considering. Here are a few pointers you can use during your search.
Look for a life coach who has personal and professional integrity. Is the person you’re considering as your life coach honest and ethical in all ways? Does he or she give you the information you need to evaluate what your relationship would be like if you worked together? Testimonials of people the life coach has worked with are a great way to gain insight about the coach’s personal and professional integrity.
Look for an experienced personal life coach. How long has the person you’re considering been a professional life coach? You would probably benefit more from a coach that has been in the business some years and has plenty of first hand experience. That’s not to take any credit away from a new coach, as some people are born as natural leaders and coaches. Your discernment will always be the final place you look before making your final choice.
Does the coach personally practice what he or she teaches? This may be difficult to find out unless the information is provided on the life coach’s website or you have a personal interview. However what I’ve found to be true is that when the coach is practicing what he or she teaches, they have an ability to transfer their knowledge in a much easier fashion and the student gets it. My own discipline is a non-negotiable daily practice; simply because I know I will get results for my clients if I do the work too. There is nothing that I instruct my students to do that I am not personally doing myself. I study to my own Personal Vision Statement, I meditate and visualize amongst other things daily. How could I ask you to do something if I had no idea of the results that would be created from doing what I asked you?
Has the personal life coach you’re considering actually helped people? Again, look for testimonials. They can help you find out if the coach has been getting good results.
Is the personal life coach you’re considering trustworthy? Personal and professional integrity (the first point I mentioned) will obviously play a big role here, and again look for testimonials or media articles which always provide a good starting point to help make your decision and can also indicate that a coach is worthy of your trust. You need a good working relationship with your life coach, and trust is essential.
Does the life coach offer a no-cost, no-obligation initial session or consultation? If so, you’ll be able to determine whether you have good rapport with each other before you spend any money. This type of rapport is very important - it makes your coaching easier and more effective. You’ll find it much easier to learn from a coach you relate well to.
Does the personal life coach have spiritual knowledge or experience? This might not seem important, but a person’s knowledge of their own spiritual nature; transforms itself into wisdom. A life coach with spiritual wisdom and experience can teach others how to deal with life’s challenges much more effectively.
